Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP)

2008/114 EC, BCP

Duties connected to the defence of nationally and national economically critical infrastructure elements are going to be under control of law soon. As a sign of this a govenment decision was already made 1249/2010 (XI.19.) with the aim of determining and assigning the tasks of  the government in order to fulfil the EU directive 2008/114/EC (the directive establishes a European process for identifying and designating European critical infrastructures (ECIs), and sets out an approach for assessing the need to improve their protection).

The notion of critical infrastructure can be widened to any assocciations and companies. For those companies, the operation of which depend on external infrastructure, it is indispensable and of economic interest to be informed of the reliability of those, they depend on. Certain technologies can become more hazardous without the operation of  infrastructure elements. In cases like this it is really necessary to be aware of the risks and the way to handle them both from financial and safety aspects.
